Local Towns and Villages

BOAT OF GARTEN
Famous for its 18-hole golf course designed in 1898 by James Braid, the village is one of the stations on the Strathspey Steam Railway running from Aviemore to Broomhill. The new village hall has a great programme of events, concerts and plays. The Showboaters have a highly popular programme of shows throughout the year.

GRANTOWN ON SPEY
The Capital of Strathspey, Grantown on Spey is in the centre of the Scottish Highlands, on the northern edge of the Cairngorms National Park and is a fine example of a Georgian planned town – one of the first to be set out in this fashion in the 1760s.  There is a museum charting life in the area.  The Anagach Woods have marked trails with walking for all abilities. There are also numerous other walks and trails around the town.

NETHYBRIDGE
Originally called Abernethy, Nethy Bridge was renamed when the railways came this far north in the 1860's. The Great North of Scotland Railway already had a village called Abernethy on its line further south, so renamed this one Nethy Bridge to differentiate the two. The place name Abernethy is still frequently used here - Abernethy Highland Games, Abernethy Forest etc.

CARRBRIDGE
The home of annual championships for  World Porridge Making Competition and Scottish Open Chainsaw Carving Competition. The Landmark Forest Theme Park is both education and lots of fun for all the family.
