Sydney House, Cromarty, Black Isle

Comfortable self-catering accommodation in the heart of Cromarty on the Black Isle

Welcome to Sydney House in Cromarty, run by Alasdair & Shirley Matheson.

Our lovely self-catering property The Old Shoe Shop is open for bookings.

Cromarty is known as one of the best preserved historic towns in the Highlands.  Sydney House is a traditional Georgian House, built in 1849. It was originally known as “Watt’s Temperance Hotel”.

The Old Shoe Shop is our very comfortable self-catering ground floor apartment. It has it's own separate entrance. A well equipped kitchen / dining room, double bedroom with en-suite shower room and a comfortable sitting room overlooking the garden. Guest  can access the garden and have their own seating area to relax and enjoy the garden.

Cromarty is a great wee place to wander around and take in the scenery. There are independent shops such as the Cromarty Pottery, The Cromarty Cheese Shop and Ingrid's House. There is also a small range of places to stop and have a coffee or something to eat.

Cromarty is a short drive from the Highland Capital of Inverness. It is an ideal spot to base your Highland holiday. Whatever you are looking for, whether it be the great outdoors, castles, distilleries or just peace and quiet, you will find it here. There are lots of opportunities for dolphin watching, birdwatching, hill walking, fishing and golfing all set in a backdrop of beautiful scenery.

As a base for your holiday you can explore the Highlands. Day trips within easy reach include Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, Dunrobin Castle, The Isle of Skye and Inverewe Gardens. Of course Cromarty is an ideal stop when starting or finishing your tour of the North Coast 500.
